System HardwareThe HARBOR balloon system flight hardware is configurable to meet the needs of individual experiments that are bourne aloft on any particular flight. For a detailed list of our science hardware, visit the HARBOR Experiments page. The standard hardware which flies on every flight will consist of: CATS (Command And Telemetry System): The CATS is the primary GPS receiver and transmitter that broadcasts the balloon's LAT, LONG and ALT during the flight. Also considered part of CATS is the power supply and the primary antenna. BATS (Balloon Auxilary Transmitter System): The BATS is a low power GPS receiver and transmitter, on an independent power supply and independent antenna, designed to operate at low power. The low power level allows the system to transmit balloon location information for long periods of time (18-24 hours) after the balloon is on the ground. |
